POLICE have made two arrests following a ram-raid on a cash machine in Alton during the early hours of Friday morning.

Officers have been investigating after a burglary in which cash was stolen from an ATM machine at the HSBC branch in High Street, Alton.

Hampshire Police were notified at 4.06am yesterday (Friday) and officers attended the scene.

A JCB telehandler had been used to remove the ATM machine from the wall and cash trays were then stolen.

Two people have been arrested in connection with this incident - a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft; and a 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of acquire/use/possess criminal property. Both are currently in police custody.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: “We understand people will be concerned about what happened and the impact that these types of burglary can have.

“We take all such reports seriously and officers are following several lines of enquiry.
