An 80-year-old pensioner was the victim of a distraction scam on Monday, September 14 at the car park for Sainsburys in Draymans Way, Alton.
As she had gone to get in her car, she was approached by a man in his 60s (described as Eastern European in appearance), who distracted her by asking directions on a map. While he was doing this another person has taken her bank card from her purse in the car.
Police are urging people to be aware of this type of scam and do share this information with other people, particularly the elderly.
They advise: "Never write down your pin number and/or keep it with your bank card.
"Remember to protect your pin number when withdrawing money from cashpoints or ATMs, also be aware of who is around you when you are making a withdrawal."
