THREE people have died – including a man from Alton – in an accident on an East Hampshire road.
The incident happened at Lasham on the A339 Alton to Basingstoke road yesterday (Saturday) afternoon.
Hampshire Police received a call at 1.40pm and officers were called to the A339, at its junction with Station Road, following reports of a collision between a Honda and a Hyundai.
A 77-year-old woman from London, who was a rear seat passenger in the Honda, died at the scene.
An 80-year-old man, who was also from London and was also a rear seat passenger in the Honda, died a short time later at Southampton General Hospital.
The front seat passenger of the Honda, a 90-year-old man from Alton, was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The driver of the Honda, an 87-year-old woman from Alton, suffered minor injuries.
The occupants of the Hyundai, three men aged 25, 23 and 17 and all from Portsmouth, suffered minor injuries.
Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.
Sergeant Mark Furse said: “This is a tragic incident where three people have lost their lives.
“The families of those involved are being supported by specially trained officers to help them at this extremely difficult time.
“We’re working to establish exactly what happened in the lead up to this incident and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision and haven’t already made contact with us.”
