POLICE officers have still not revealed the identity details of a body that was discovered in a garden in a property near Petersfield.

The discovery was made on Sunday morning at the house in Midhurst Road in Sheet and among the few details released so far by Hampshire Police, a statement said officers believed the body was that of a man in his 40s.

The statement also confirmed that officers were called to the scene at around 9.40am on Sunday morning, and that a post mortem examination of the body was due to take place this afternoon.

Residents in the village reported seeing a number of police vehicles parked near Sheet Common yesterday and part of the area was cordoned off while officers conducted searches of the land around the property.

Neighbours could only speculate as to what the incident was about initially as no details about what had happened were released to them while police officers carried out their investigations.

That police work has continued at the scene throughout today.

Anyone with any information related to the incident should contact Hampshire Police on 101.
