DEMENTIA Friendly Petersfield (DFP) is to fund a number of dementia support groups, it has announced.
DFP was launched in 2016 to increase awareness and understanding about dementia, drawing support from a range of organisations, including national and independent retailers.
The support groups will be unveiled at a special event between 11.30am and noon in the United Reform Church, College Street, Petersfield, on Friday, March 2.
Among the guests will be East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds, who founded DFP, and Hampshire county councillor Russell Oppenheimer, who is contributing a grant.
The launch announcement comes hard on the heels of news that 50 local organisations are now members of the initiative.
MacDonald Oates solicitors in St Peter’s Road is the latest member, joining shortly after Specsavers opticians in The Square.
Each member organisation, shop or business pledges to help their staff become Dementia Friends by attending a one hour information session.
These free sessions run by Dementia Support Worker Jeff Williams of Petersfield are usually held at the member’s premises, at a time that is convenient to the staff.
