THE UNION Jacks were out in force as 10,000 people made the poignant Farewell to the Garrison on Saturday the biggest event ever held in Bordon and Whitehill.

Emotions were mixed for the crowds lining the streets as the Army's role in Bordon life for more than a century ended.

As the Union flag was lowered during the Beating Retreat ceremony, the climax to a day of civilian and military activities, the finality of the army's departure hit home for the watching residents and visitors....
