IT WAS a joy for visitors to Harting Horticultural Society’s Spring Show to see tables laden with fresh, vibrant blooms after the long wet winter.
Inclement spring weather meant fewer entries in some of the flower classes, but it was a bright and sunny afternoon on Saturday when the popular event was held.
A lovely array of spring colour, from narcissi, tulips and hellebores, made for delightful arrangements, with experienced judge Mary Holliday-Bishop casting her expert eye over the entries.
Photographic entries were well up on previous years with themes of ‘happiness’, ‘a country lane’, ‘fin, fur or feather’ and ‘something beginning with a C’. “The cookery class was well represented, too, tempting the taste buds, as did the homemade cakes on sale,” said show secretary Cynthia Clue.
A nod to this year’s Royal birthday was made with Royal Celebration Cupcakes in one of the cookery classes, and children were challenged to design a flag to mark the Queen’s 90 years, as well as making pizzas and edible necklaces.
