WATCHING England play in a major football tournament is usually a depressing affair as it often consists of struggling against a small nation or getting knocked out on penalties.
But England’s momentous win against Sweden on Saturday meant the party went on a little bit longer for newlyweds, Jason and Dani Borbora-Sheen.
Their weekend of celebration kicked off the day before the big match when Petersfield-born Dani married Jason, from Kent, in St Peter’s Church before the pair moved to Old Ditcham for the reception.
The couple returned to the town centre the next day as they decided to watch the World Cup quarter final match in the Folly Bar with around 30 members of their wedding party.
The party accounted for around half the audience in the College Street venue but their decision to watch the game at the Folly wasn’t pre-planned, according to friend Owen Mason.
“We went to the Tithe Barn for the reception on the Friday night and a lot of us had come from all over the country,” said the wedding guest from London.
“We were going to go for a walk as, with England you never know how they’re going to do, and it’s hard to plan too far in advance – so when the results went our way we changed our plans.
“So we decided to have a quick walk around the pond and then all piled into a pub to watch the game.
“There were about 30 of us and we spent about three hours there.”
Few people need reminding that Gareth Southgate’s team delivered a wonderful present to the happy couple and their guests, winning 2-0 to send everyone home very happy ahead of tonight’s (Wednesday) semi final.
