AGE UK is appealing for volunteers to help with a pilot project aimed at enhancing the lives of people over 55 recovering at home after hospital treatment, or a major life changing event.
If the innovative initiative is successful it could be rolled out to other areas, says coordinator Kathy Slade of East Meon.
She said: “Support can include helping them build their confidence and independence, aid walking and mobility, encourage gentle exercise, help to take part in activities, or engage with people outside the home, or assisting with daily tasks of living in their home.”
Potential volunteers will go through an enhanced police check, and it is hoped they would be available to see the same person for two hours a week for up to 12 weeks.
Any necessary training will be arranged, and a petrol allowance will be paid if they have to travel to a client’s home.
Kathy said: “If you are passionate about helping improve the quality of life and independence of others, and this is something you feel you would like to get involved in, please contact me.”
Volunteers will be based at Petersfield Hospital in Swan Street, and for more information about the scheme contact Kathy on 07954655775, or email [email protected]
