PETERSFIELD Heath pond is not exactly the high seas, but Mandie Letchford walked the plank and made a splash for her charity on Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Despite recovering from a broken foot, she gamely jumped into two feet of water after being prodded by her band members in ukulele ensemble The Pompey Pluckers, dressed as cutlass-wielding pirates.

They also performed sea shanties at various places around Petersfield on Monday to raise awareness in a fun and lively way of Artscape, where Mandie is director.

Winton House was their first stop off – where the independent charity holds weekly sessions – and they went on to entertain and inform shoppers, passers-by and customers at The Square Brewery, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Fork Handles Kitchen.

Around £250 was raised which will go towards art materials. Artscape provides adults with severe mental ill-health and related disabilities a secure space to create art, helping to build confidence.

Mandie said: “People saw this crazy bunch of people walking down the high street, but we got a lot of support. We are a tiny charity based on the doorstep and we wanted people to know more about us.” Visit artscapeart.weebly.com
