A GREATHAM couple is hoping to bring a dog home from the Caribbean that was just 48 hours from death.

Sarah Hartwright and her partner Rob Knowles were meant to be relaxing on holiday in St Maarten, when they found four-month-old puppy Coco.

“We were driving back to the villa from the beach,” said Sarah.

“We had seen lots of strays that were not in a great state, but then we saw Coco.

“She was under a tree in shade, and she was in an horrific state. She had over 300 ticks on her body, and she could hardly raise her head from the ground.

“We scooped her up and took her to the villa. We found a vet that we could take her to the next day, and that evening we removed her ticks and gave her some food.

“The vet said she was 48 hours from death because she had tick fever and a body temperature of over 40 degrees, and the vet gave her some medication.

“They don’t have kennels there and couldn’t house her, so we looked after her for the rest of the holiday. We cancelled all of our trips for the rest of the holiday and spent the next few days relaxing by the pool with Coco.

“We had to fly back home and the vets told us they could house her if we paid the medical costs. She has come on leaps and bounds with the vets and is now well enough to come to the UK. We’re now trying to raise the money to fly her back to the UK to live a happy and secure life in Greatham with us.”

Sarah and Rob have raised £600 out of their £1,000 target. To donate visit: www.gofundme.com/rescuecoco
