PETERSFIELD couple Pam and Frank Buckland, both 89, celebrated 70 years of marriage by enjoying a glass of bubbly, and reading their congratulations telegram from the Queen. Daughter Carol said: “I believe they have achieved this milestone simply because they have always been in love, although they say marriage is a matter of ‘give and take’.” They were married aged 19, after Pam left the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, and before Frank was posted to Singapore.

In 1956 they began work for Major and Mrs Hugh Rose at Buriton House, moving to Petersfield some 37 or so years ago. Pam remains a prolific writer, with many letters and articles published. Frank, a keen aero modeller, gained a private pilot’s licence at the age of 65 after only a couple of years’ tuition. “He still flies, but these days only on his computer,” added Carol.
