PLANS by Petersfield Salvation Army to turn scrub land and a disabled parking space into an outdoor amenity area are being recommended for approval.

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) planners say the proposal for the land and disabled space in the car park behind the Salvation Army chapel in Swan Street in Petersfield won’t harm the character of the area.

In a report, EHDC planning officer Katherine Pang said: “The proposal is considered to be acceptable. It would be in compliance with all the relevant policies, including the Petersfield Neighbourhood Plan.”

Only one letter of objection to the idea has been sent to the council, with the author claiming the proposal would see a loss of green space, and objecting that the amenity space would be for the exclusive use of the Salvation Army only.

A decision on the application is due to be taken by EHDC planning committee at it’s public meeting on Thursday, October 20, 6pm, in the Penns Place council chamber.
