IT was a hot and busy two days on the Petersfield and District Angling Club stall at the latest festival in Petersfield.

Club chairman Steve Chapman said: “Hometown Festivals put on another great event and that gave the Petersfield and District Angling Club a great opportunity to show the community that we are here, and that we do have something to offer.

“A special thank you to all of the club volunteers that helped out and a thank you to all those that stopped by for a chat, and especially those that specifically came down to join up with us.

“I would like to put on record my thanks to all those who helped over the last two days. It has been a resounding success with over 25 new and returning members joining Petersfield and District Angling Club, including eight juniors.

“There has also been more interest in the family fun days that are now nearly fully booked and a lot of interest from people taking away membership forms.

“A big thank you must go to Shaun Ireland and Andy Reed for making this happen.”

On September 22 the club held a float-only match at Nyewood Ponds. Eighteen anglers fished and the result was: 1st – Keith Tupman (111lb 4oz), 2nd – Jamie Foster (109lb 15oz), 3rd Ethan Etherington (Junior) 66lb 10oz.

The club held its second 12-hour night match at Nyewood Ponds on October 19. Conditions were not that great but there were still some good weights. The result was: 1st – Chris Collins (221lb 4oz), 2nd – Ian Jennings (76lb 12oz), 3rd – Jim Druce (71lb 5oz).

Petersfield and District remains unbeaten in inter-club matches this season after encounters with Haslemere and Chichester.

Thirty anglers fished at Shillinglea on October 6, when the result was Haslemere 61lb 8oz, Petersfield 70lb 10oz.

At Longlake on October 12 there were 18 anglers and the result was Chichester 533lb 12oz, Petersfield 535lb 14oz.

A photographic competition saw four members win embroidered club baseball caps as prizes after months of people voting for their pictures and sharing them on social media.

Cody Angell, aged five, won the juvenile section, and 12-year-old Maisy West won the junior category. The adult winners were Karen Leech and John Chivers.
