A MUCH-loved Land Rover has been reported stolen from Petersfield railway station car park on Monday (April 4).
The South Harting family who bought the 12-seater R registration Defender vehicle 17 years ago, have appealed for information.
They fear Land Rovers are being targeted by thieves, to be dismantled for parts, and have put out a warning to other owners to be vigilant.
“We have had the Land Rover since 1999 and driven it all over?Europe and the UK with our five children and friends,” said the distressed owner, who did not wish to be named.
“On one holiday there were ten of us travelling to the Pyrenees. And we have had several holidays and many day trips with up to ten passengers.
“It was very much part of the family.”
Her husband parked at the station at 6.45am, on the upper level on the town side, on Monday, for his daily commute to London.
When he returned at 9pm the vehicle, thought to be worth around £8,000, had gone.
He had been parking at the station for years.
A spokesman for South West Trains told the family he had never known of a vehicle theft from a railway station car park.
British Transport Police has been informed.
Anyone with information about the theft should call 0207 027 6523 or 101.
