A DROP-IN centre for serving and retired armed forces personnel has opened in Petersfield.
Based in Winton House, the monthly get-together will give them the chance to meet, share their experiences and talk to others who speak the same language.
The centre will also give access to support groups such as SSAFFA, the Services Employment Agency and the Royal British Legion.
Petersfield Town Council armed forces champion Chris Paige, himself a former soldier who served in Iraq, was the driving force behind the centre, along with Cllr Lesley Farrow.
Cllr Paige (pictured fourth from right) said: “There have been many conflicts since the Second World War and local people have served in some. There is no other profession where people are prepared to give their life if necessary; servicemen and women are unique. I know the value of the comradeship that talking to fellow veterans can bring.”
The first drop-in session last Thursday saw local veterans, refreshed by copious amounts of tea, chat about their experiences.
Serving personnel and veterans are welcome to go to the next drop-in on Thursday, December 1 from 4pm to 8pm.
