HAMPSHIRE landscapes and seascapes have inspired the striking paintings in a solo exhibition by Paul Best in the cafe at the Allen Gallery in Alton.

Landscape Reflections, on until April 29, features mostly heavily textured artworks, including this one pictured of the Watercress Line, which incorporate the use of reflective paints with the acrylics.

This, the Hampshire-based artist believes, gives the paintings a “distinctive quality”, capturing and reflecting light.

“The effect created changes at different times of day with the changing light conditions,” he explained.

Paul studied landscape architecture at Cheltenham College of Art and fine art at the Southampton Institute and has practiced as a landscape architect in Hampshire for the past 25 years.

His work has been displayed in collections in America, Australia and Switzerland.

In his home country, and county, he has held exhibitions at venues including Queen Elizabeth Country Park, The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre at Bordon, and The Art Cafe in Winchester.

His range of limited edition prints can be viewed online at www.the-art-barn.com

The Allen Gallery is at 10-11 Church Street, Alton.

The opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
