HACKNEY Colliery Band have had a simply phenomenal few years and now Petersfield audiences can hear – and see – what has led to their success.
From playing at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and sets at the MOBO, Brit and Mercury Awards to live sessions for BBC 2, BBC Radio 2, Jazz FM and collaborations with artists including Amy Winehouse and Madness, these east London musicians haven’t stopped.
A tour de force of trumpets, trombones, saxaphones, sousaphone, marching percussion and electronics, the band are as inspired by contemporary rock and electronica as they are by New Orleans marching bands and the traditional British brass bands to which their name pays homage.
Formed in 2008 out of a desire to play music that appealed to the feet as much as to the ears, the band has rapidly gained an army of loyal supporters.
Since the release of their eponymous debut album in 2011, the nine-piece have blown their way into the public consciousness with their energetic and passionate live shows, amassing fans worldwide and re-inventing the brass band sound for the modern age.
They will be performing at The Theatre, at Bedales, Steep, Petersfield, tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £16, concessions £14, and are available from the website at: www.bedalesevents.co.uk or call 0333 666 3366.
