WE’RE all part-barbarian is the intriguing premise behind another of the top Edinburgh preview shows at Petersfield Comedy Club.

Comedian Ben Van Der Velde and his show Barbarians, which he is taking to the Edinburgh Festival in August, explores the scientific theory that every Eurasian man shares about eight per cent of his DNA with Genghis Khan.

“Which makes us all part-barbarian –?a pretty sobering thought as you play with your iPhone while sipping on a skinny mocha-latte,” he said.

The second act on the bill is club favourite Gordon Southern, who is also on his way to set out his stall before the legions of comedy fans in Edinburgh, with his Long Story Short show. This is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, blending observational comedy and storytelling.

Gordon is said to have a “wonderfully warm” style.

Tickets for the club on Monday, June 6, at 8.30pm, at the Folly Wine and Ale House are £6 in advance from the Folly Bar downstairs or £7 on the door. There is a dining offer of £7.95 for a burger or sandwich plus a pint of Fosters or glass of wine.
