A BARN dance in Liss has raised money for a charity which helps refugees.

The New Year’s barn dance was held at St Mary’s Church on Station Road on Saturday, January 7.

The annual event was organised by Liss Churches Working Together.

Bridget Hughes, who is part of Liss Churches Working Together, said: “It was a lovely evening and we had at least 100 people there.

“It was the seventh New Year’s barn dance to be held at St Mary’s by Liss Churches Working Together and the start time was brought forward to 6pm this year to encourage families with children to come and we had lots of families there.

“We had bagpipers playing at the entrance of the church to welcome people in, and to play Auld Lang Syne at the end of the evening, and the Rogate Scottish dance club did a lovely short demonstration in the interval.

“Entrance is always free with a retiring collection to a charity, this year to the work of Samaria Ministries, a charity which helps refugees in Athens.

“The church looked absolutely beautiful and several people commented on the lights which made it look lovely in there.

“It was a great evening and we look forward to the next one in 2018.”
