HAMPSHIRE County Council is advising young and old walkers and cyclists to Be Bright Be Seen on the roads as the winter days draw in.

The council is advising children and adults walking or cycling near traffic that reflective clothing is needed, as this reflects light from car and bike headlamps, and to make sure bike lights are clean and in good working order.

Councillor Rob Humby, Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Hampshire County Council explained: “With the clocks going back at the end of October, we’re encouraging people to make sure they can be seen by drivers as they walk or cycle to and from school or work during the dull winter months.”

The council has teamed up with Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Fire and Rescue to highlight that winter is ‘Your Time to Shine’, and to encourage pedestrians and cyclists to make sure they can be seen.

A spokesman added that wearing reflective clothing, lights or other gadgets on dark mornings and evenings, will make the wearer visible to vehicles, and could help prevent accidents.
