DARTH Vader, Gandalph, Crocodile Dundee and the Queen greeted unsuspecting visitors to Nyewood.Around 60 lovingly-crafted characters were created by the village’s residents for their second scarecrow festival held last month. They ranged from the very simple Naked Scarecrow – an unclothed straw figure – to elaborate constructions such as the Queen’s royal coach which came complete with footman and monarch who waved to conlookers at the flick of a switch.A scarecrow family fun day on the village green featured games, a barbecue and presentation of prizes by chairman of the Henry Warren Hall Ken Smith, who praised the high standard of entries. The festival was one of a series of events to raise funds for rebuilding Nyewood Village Hall.
