BISHOP Philip Egan has visited St Laurence’s Roman Catholic Church in Station Road, Petersfield, and St Agnes Church at Hill Brow in Liss for the first time since he became Bishop of Portsmouth Catholic Diocese five years ago.

The Bishop gave a homily at the three morning masses at the churches, and then met church goers.

In the afternoon he enjoyed ice cream sundaes with youngsters aged 12 to 18 years old, and discussed their experiences of being a Catholic at school and in everyday life, as well as at church.

He also led a Holy Hour with?Benediction, and joined prayers for those whose jobs are considered to be vocations.

At one point during his visit on November 5, he tweeted: “I’m on a pastoral visitation today to the parish of St Laurence with St Agnes.

“Warm, welcoming people with a splendid priest.”

After the bishop’s visit, Petersfield and Liss parish priest Father Peter Hollins said: “We all enjoyed welcoming Bishop Philip. He embraced the very full day.

“And he certainly enjoyed meeting the parishioners who came from a wide area in and around Petersfield and Liss to meet him.”
