MORE?THAN 100 vintage vehicles of all makes took part in The Post and Herald Summer Motor Show.

In summery weather, they parked from The Square and all along Chapel Street on Sunday, attracting admiring glances and interested questions from the hundreds of show visitors.

At the end of the afternoon, the trophy for best vehicle on show was presented to Pat Skinner for her beautifully turned out circa 1942 American Ford Jeep, nicknamed ‘Molly.’

Pat, a former nurse, said: “Molly is in British Army Beach Group livery as she would have been for D-Day.

“The group was made up of engineers, sappers and medics and was a small unit formed for the invasion, and was disbanded after D-Day.

“She would have ferried officers around the beachhead, or wounded soldiers on stretchers.”

Pat and husband, Dudley, are part of a Second World War re-enactment group, and were smartly turned out for show day, Pat in Auxiliary Territorial Service khaki, and Dudley in a dashing Royal Naval Reserve uniform.
