BOHUNT School students have shown their generosity by raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The school’s November fundraising effort benefited Children in Need, Cancer Research and the Poppy Appeal.

Bohunt School raised more than £1,250 for Children in Need and the Poppy Appeal by holding a non-uniform day.

This followed a string of fundraising activities, with Bohunt students from George House donating £2,660.42 to Cancer Research.

The money was raised through a variety of activities such as selling Santa hats, Stand Up to Cancer badges and cake sales. Senior achievement co-ordinator Ellie Roff completed a half marathon.

Cancer Research UK’s area fundraising manager Nicola Dunford received the cheque from two George House students, Harry Lucas and Helena Jarvis, and the achievement co-ordinator for George House, Rachael Priestley.

Nicola thanked the students for all their hard work and told them that Cancer Research UK aims to increase the number of people surviving cancer from the current 50 per cent to 75 per cent by 2023.

Bohunt School headteacher Neil Strowger said: “We are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment that our young people have shown for helping others around them.

“The creative ideas and implementation of these events is driven by the students themselves.

“The time, passion, teamwork and determination that goes into raising the money is exceptional.

“We have seen first-hand the huge role that these charities play in building and improving the lives of people both within our local community and around the country. This is our opportunity to give something back.”
