HAMPSHIRE farmers are being encouraged to attend Brexit debates next month in advance of the EU in / out referendum in June.
Jointly organised by the National Farmers Union (NFU) branch in Bedford Road, Petersfield, there is one each in Hampshire and West Sussex, and NFU Deputy Director General Martin Howarth will attend.
Hampshire NFU chairman and arable farmer Matt Culley says: “Agriculture has a long relationship with Europe through the Common Agricultural Policy and access to the single market, the world’s largest economy.
“I’d encourage NFU members to attend the Brexit debates before casting a vote that could help completely change the way our industry works.
“The NFU is taking a neutral stance on this issue but we’re working with a leading agricultural research institute on the potential impact of a Brexit, as we hope to help our members understand the possible consequences of leaving the EU.”
The Brexit debates are on Monday, April 11, at 7pm in the Hampshire Suite, Holiday Inn, Winchester, Hampshire SO21 1HZ, and Tuesday, March 12, Tuesday 12 April, there is another at Kleinwort Pavilion, SOE Showground, Ardingly, West Sussex RH17 6TL, refreshments from 6.30pm,, debate starts 7pm.
