THE PEOPLE of Buriton like it hot.
Visitors to this year’s Village Show were treated to the ‘spectacular’ sight of the hog roast catching fire while a hottest chilli competition had a kitchen worker at the Five Bells sweating.
Show chairman Steve Atkins said: “Fran Vasey, the landlord, came up with the hottest chilli idea.
“She had one of her kitchen staff judge chillies that various people in the village grew. A lot of lemonade was drunk.”
The hot summer didn’t affect the quality of entries at this year’s show as 505 exhibits were submitted by 88 entrants. The event was also a “festival of food and flowers” with a Hawthorn Gin tasting, featuring four cocktails, which went down a treat.
