A GROUP of enthusiasts restoring old buses are holding a free open day, so the project becomes more widely known.

They are hoping the event at their workshop near Milland will also attract more volunteers.

The Aldershot and District Rescue and Restoration Society (ADORRS) president, 85-year-old former bus driver and ticket inspector Ray Le Mesurier-Foster, said: “We ended up here by chance 25 years ago, and would really like the local community to know more about us, and become involved in helping restore these historic buses.”

The society has already restored two double-decker buses, one of which used to run from Guildford to Petersfield and back (pictured above).

But the society would like help rebuilding two 1920s single-decker buses ‘found’ in a field at Four Marks, and a similar one recovered from a house by the River Thames.

As it’s estimated the cost of restoring the Four Marks pair would be in excess of £500,000, it is planned to build one working bus out of all three, and keep any remaining usable parts for spares.
