For the first time since the lockdown closure in March, Chawton House will once again welcome visitors to its gardens from Saturday (July 4).

Entry is by pre-booking only, with numbers restricted to ensure the gardens are safe for both staff and visitors.

To aid with social distancing, entry will be split into two time slots, 11am to 2pm, and 2pm to 4.30pm.

The Old Kitchen Tearoom will be open for takeaways, and the gift shop will also be opening as a stall in the courtyard.

The cost to visit the gardens on the day is £6 – valid only for the day of booking – and tickets will be released fortnightly. They can be booked through the Chawton House website at www.janeaustens.house
