A LANDLORD has spoken of his pride after his traditional country pub near Droxford was shortlisted for an award.

The Hampshire Bowman in Dundridge is in the regional finals of the Countryside Alliance Awards.

It is competing in the pub category in this annual celebration of British food, farming, enterprise and heritage, for which organisers have received more than 17,000 nominations.

Mark Newman, landlord of the real ale and dog-friendly pub with an archery range, said: “This is a huge honour for us. It reflects the hard work that my wife and I, along with our wonderful young team, have put in over the years.

"It is always nice to be recognised, and being people that have always lived and worked in the countryside the Countryside Alliance Awards feel extra special.”

The winners will be announced in early summer. For more information visit www.countryside-alliance.org
