WHILE gearing up for World Book Day on March 5, a West Meon company is celebrating 25 years of providing books for reluctant readers.
Jenny Ertle and Stephen Rickard set up Ransom Publishing in 1995 to help people like Jenny’s young son, who was falling behind on his school reading curriculum and no longer enjoyed books.
Ransom books provide content appropriate to the age of the reader but written in simpler English so they can be read by both people with a lower reading age than their actual age and those learning English as a second language.
The illustrations, fonts and layouts used make the books attractive and easier to read, with some printed on cream or black paper to help people with dyslexia. Ransom titles are available in schools, libraries and prisons.
