PETERSFIELD companies are backing the South Downs Show, demonstrating the community spirited ethos of the town.

Beaver Tool Hire is the main sponsors and will be demonstrating some of the more interesting tools, such as a ‘cherry picker’ man lift at the event over the weekend of August 20 and 21.

They are joined in supporting the show at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, by Rafferty Newman, The General Wine Company, and Tolchards, all from Petersfield.

And one of the main arena acts, Stallions of Substance, comes from nearby Bordon.

Show organiser Terena Plowright, of Petersfield, said: “They are a class act, they ride horses with a skill that literally makes the audience let out a loud gasp.”

The show also includes woodland crafts, and demonstrations by educational charities.

There will also be activities for the children, a re-enactment arena, demonstrations, farm animals, heavy horses, ferrets on the show programme.

Reedlands Retrievers, Sweep’s Sheepdog Show, Homested dog agility, and a falconry display are some of the arena demonstrations.

Gundog eventing will be a big part of the show, with new trophies this year.

Ms Plowright said: “There will also be many other activities for dogs such as a pet dog show, dog agility and scale the bale.

“I can’t thank the Petersfield companies enough. They bring a feel of community spirit and the sense that business in Petersfield is thriving.

“With fingers crossed for the weather, I know this is going to be a fab show with a great atmosphere,” she added.
