A PETERSFIELD businessman has announced his intention to raise £100,000 to employ a researcher at a Cancer Research centre in memory of his wife.

Before she died last year, Monica Waller was a Cancer Research volunteer for ten years, and now her husband Clive aims to help Professor Tim Elliot in his work that could help discover a cancer vaccination.

Clive, who lives at Stroud, hopes to raise enough to fund a researcher to help Professor Elliot for three years, a total cost of £100,000. Each year his company, CWC Research, hosts a fundraising dinner in London compared by TV personality and newscaster Kate Silverton.

Money raised by a collection is matched by event sponsors, Aberdeen Asset Management.

Clive said: “Although this isn’t a charity event, there is always a collection for appropriate causes.

“Last year, over £30,000 was raised for MIND, the mental health charity.

“Before that, some £80,000 was raised over four years for Help for Heroes in memory of Royal Marine Richard Hollington, who lived locally.

“Monica’s wish was that Cancer Research was the charity supported at the most recent dinner, and the total raised was an extraordinary £55,135.”
