A DENMEAD wine merchant will have the perfect tonic for gin drinkers this weekend in the War Memorial Hall.

Drinkers could be forgiven for shouting “Gordon’s Bennett” this Saturday as the second Denmead Gin Festival will feature no fewer than 39 varieties.

The event, which will take place between 3pm and 7pm, is the brainchild of Janine Pert, the Australian-born entrepreneur who runs Discover Wine.

Just under 500 tickets have been snapped up making the festival a sell-out for the second year running.

“Gin has really taken off big time, and is one of the most popular drinks out there today,” said Mrs Pert, who opened up her shop three years ago.

“There are micro-distilleries popping up all over the country and there’s now so many unusual gins to choose from, depending on your palette, of course.”

Visitors can get advice and cocktail-making tips from the “Gin Genie” professional mixologist with the event also including a barbecue, music from a live jazz band and several stalls.

“It really is a great afternoon with a real sense of community,” added Mrs Pert.

People who have been lucky enough to get tickets will be given a programme, three tasting tokens and an etched balloon glass as a souvenir.
