ROWLANDS Castle residents are invited to have any Second World War memorabilia they may own photographed, catalogued and recorded for posterity.

Rowlands Castle Heritage Centre will be participating in a display at the Victory in Europe (VE) Day Commemorations on the village green and in the village church on Friday, May 8.

Rowlands Castle Heritage Centre spokesman Alan Drinkwater said: “We felt it would be an opportunity to invite residents to contribute too, by offering to photo or scan any photos, letters, maps or other memorabilia which reminds you of the challenges, achievements and experiences of the war and of D-Day in particular.

“Please let me know if you wish to lend or donate them, or just have them photographed, or if they are documents we can scan them.

“I can also arrange for a colleague to visit you at home, usually during the morning, to photograph your exhibit.”

VE Day on May 8, 1945, was the official end of the Second World War.

This year’s celebrations mark 75 years since the end of the six-year conflict that had cost the lives of millions, had destroyed homes, families and cities, and had brought huge suffering and privations to the populations of entire countries.
