THE PETERSFIELD naval captain rescuing thousands of desperate migrants in the Mediterranean has earned top level praise.
Captain Nick Cooke-Priest, commanding officer of Royal Navy flagship HMS Bulwark, is at the helm of the huge humanitarian operation taking refugees who set off from Africa and Syria to safety.
So far, 3,000 migrants making the treacherous Mediterranean crossing to Europe in inflatable boats and other unseaworthy craft have been taken on board.
Last weekend saw the biggest operation yet for Cooke-Priest – who grew up in the family home at Heath Road and now lives at Rake with his wife, Georgie, and three young sons – with 1,200 people, pregnant women and young children among them, filling every space of one 'cavernous' deck of the ship....
