Parking charges are set to increase by up to ten per cent at Frensham Great Pond – but will be frozen at other Waverley council-run car parks across the borough.

After April 1, the cost to park for up to one hour at Frensham will increase from £1.50 to £1.60; for up to two hours from £3 to £3.30; for up to four hours from £4 to £4.40; and all day from £6 to £6.50.

It comes as part of a 'herculean effort', as described by Lib Dem council leader Paul Follows, to balance the borough's budget in the face of central government cuts.

Fees and charges for other services such as hall hire and planning fees are also set to increase in line with inflation, and rent for council tenants will increase by four per cent.

Some examples of the rises will see the cost of hiring the main hall at the Farnham Memorial Hall at weekends increase 8.9 per cent to £46.40 per hour, the cost of a new 180 litre black wheelie bin increase ten per cent to £44, and a new food caddy by 14.3 per cent to £8.

The cost to host a village fete will rise nine per cent to £185.30, ice cream vans will have to pay £56.70 per day, up nine per cent, and a hot air balloon launch will increase nine per cent to £95.50.
