EAST Hampshire District Council’s planning committee has approved an application for an additional pitch for two caravans at Hill Top Stables, in Devil’s Lane, Liphook.

The application proposes that the additional pitch for two caravans will be for residential occupation for a single gypsy family with associated hard standing and utility room and to vary the layout on the existing site.

The decision to approve the planning application was made at a planning committee meeting in July, and the planning officer’s recommendation had been to grant outline permission.

In recommending approval of the application the planning officer’s report said: “The site benefits from planning permission for one gypsy family.

“The proposal would increase the number of families and pitches from one to two, for extended members of the applicants’ family.

“Having regard to all material planning considerations and representations received, the principle of the proposal to intensify this use is considered acceptable, as amongst other matters, there is a recognised need for such accommodation within the district.

“The development would not be materially harmful to the locality of the amenity of the district.

“There are no highway or drainage objections.”

The highways department had concluded that the access was acceptable with suitable conditions and could take traffic from the site.

Ten councillors voted for permission, no councillors voted against permission and no councillors abstained from voting.
