THERE’LL be plenty of tail wagging at the Petersfield-based Hounds for Heroes as the charity receives some cash boosts.

Through the green token voting scheme, customers at Waitrose Petersfield helped the charity receive a £536 cheque from its community pot. The store’s deputy manager Neil Mundy said Hounds for Heroes, which provides assistance dogs for servicemen and women and those in the emergency services who are injured and disabled, was a popular charity with shoppers.

A giant cheque was presented to Clanfield war veteran Allen Parton, who runs the charity. He applauded the generosity of Waitrose.

The supermarket had a hospitality suite at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in London last month, and members of staff from Petersfield enjoyed a day out there, with some of the Hounds for Heroes team.

A cheque, for £8,283, has also come Allen’s way from Vets4Pets. This means the charity can now complete the funding of another dog to be trained to help one of more than 900 forces and civilian personnel on the waiting list. It costs around £25,000 to train and care for a dog throughout its ten-year life service with Hounds for Heroes.
