Thirty members of the East Hants Self-Sufficiency Group enjoyed a tour of the Adhurst Estate allotments near Sheet, led by allotments chairman Steve Amos.

He explained the history of this relatively new 140-plot site, the variety of crops grown, and its ingenious solar-powered water supply.

The visit fitted in well with the Self-Sufficiency Group’s motto Growing Together, as well as coinciding with National Allotments Week.

The group also visited the neighbouring Petersfield Community Garden, accompanied by founder member Sue Edberg.

So far this summer, all the group’s meetings have been outdoor visits, including the deer at Sky Park Farm at West Harting, and the large array of solar-generating panels, independent water supply and productive vegetable garden at a member’s home near Stedham. Even the group’s annual general meeting was held outdoors for the first time in its 44-year history.

But with the lifting of pandemic restrictions, they can return to their normal venue of the Triangle Centre in Liss, on the second Wednesday each month. For details visit the website ehss.org.uk or contact Alec Fry on 01730 816316.
