HE MAY have portrayed his beloved English landscape through poetry, but Steep poet Edward Thomas captured it on his camera too.

And Petersfield Museum will be displaying a collection of these images in an exciting two week exhibition entitled Through a Poet’s Lens: The Photography of Edward Thomas.

Open from Tuesday, May 30, to Saturday, June 17, in the revamped museum’s Community Gallery, the exhibition will show the England through which Thomas travelled, along roads and without cars, traversing a landscape not yet ravaged by war.

Shown alongside these scenes will be a previously unseen album of intimate family photographs dated 1911, at which time Thomas was living at Steep.

A small display of photographs of an historical house in Bridgend complete the collection of all the museum knows to have been taken by Thomas’ camera.

Petersfield Museum is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Adult entry fee applies.
