LOCAL charity TLC is committed to recruiting more volunteers to expand its services to address the ever growing waiting lists for help in the community.
At the moment the Bordon charity offers support and friending to those in need throughout East Hampshire, and beyond.
TLC volunteers give up to three hours of their time to visit people in the community with life limiting conditions, being either cared for by a family member or those isolated and in need of support and friendship.
TLC spokesman Jenny Croucher said: “Just a friendly cuppa or perhaps an outing makes all the difference and makes family carers feel they are not forgotten.”
TLC supports people throughout Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex, providing volunteers in individual communities.
It also provides free complementary therapies for clients and their carers to alleviate stress and anxiety. The charity is funded by The Big Lottery and also relies on other grants and fundraising in order to provide more and more as the waiting lists grow.
Volunteers are offered all the support needed to feel comfortable and useful in their roles.
Once initial training is completed, additional training days are held on specialist subjects such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and nutrition which are open to volunteers and TLC’s client carers.
Comments about a recent workshop day included, “well led, time flew, great fun”, “friendly, informative and open”, “a great day, good balance of fact and discussion, very enjoyable” and “excellent, appropriate and good.”
