A CHARITY with the aim of doubling the size of Petersfield skate park has been folded – as the trustees can’t attract younger volunteers to take the project forward.

The Festival For Young People was launched in 2008 by Petersfield trio Nigel Wells, Roger Parkes and Daphne Clark – who were all retired – but had been running informally before then.

They successfully organised the building of the skate park on Petersfield Town Council playing fields off Love Lane, which opened in 2010.

A drive to raise about £150,000 to double its size, and make it wheelchair user friendly, was then launched.

But after years of trying to gain funding, the idea has been abandoned and the charity folded.

Mr Wells said: “We have been working on the skate park project for almost 20 years, and we aren’t getting any younger.”

Charity chairman Roger Parkes added: “It’s time for someone else to have a go.”

Last Saturday they sold off items held by the charity. The money raised by the stall sale in Rams Walk, and other funds the charity holds, will be donated to local causes.
