Volunteers and charities took to the streets of Petersfield on Saturday to carry out the 2021 Charity Walk for Peace.

The annual fundraiser is organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association and East Hampshire District Council to help local good causes.

The event was cancelled in 2020 and this year’s event on September 4 was smaller in scale, but about 50 walkers completed the course from Penns Place, through Petersfield town centre and back again.

They walked to raise awareness and much-needed money for Liss Crossover Centre, Havant & East Hants MIND, Swallows Trampolining Club – Disability section, Artscape, the Kingsley Organisation, Dementia Friendly, and the Attenborough Explorer Scout Group.

Zakariyya Choudhry of the Charity Walk for Peace, said: “Our motto is Love for All Hatred for None and we believe the Charity Walk for Peace is a great way to achieve that community cohesion and really do something positive together.

“Its purpose is to raise funds for the community and involve the local community so we can create something positive.”

Cllr Julie Butler added: “After the disappointment of last year, I am delighted we put the walk on again. We supported as many charities as we can and hopefully raised a nice sum for them.

“It is particularly important we look after our voluntary sector and events like this are a brilliant way of doing that.”
