Bonfire builders are being urged to check for hedgehogs before they set light to it this weekend for November 5 celebrations.

Hedgehogs will be choosing a place to hibernate for the winter at this time. A pile of wood is likely to offer an inviting winter home for these little mammals, which are in decline in the UK.

If you want to feed hedgehogs, don’t give bread and milk; give cat food instead as they cannot digest milk. Hedgehogs are very good at keeping down slugs and snails in gardens as they love to eat them, along with earthworms and beetles.
