PETERSFIELD’S a cappella singers, The Free Radicals, will be celebrating Mothering Sunday in a traditional style with an uplifting version of choral evensong in Liss.
Director Steve Sargent said: “We always enjoy evensong because it gives us a chance to cherry-pick some really rich music from the last 400 years. People come and savour the variety, whilst relaxing in a contemplative setting.
“All of it is top quality music, reaching as far back as Palestrina in 16th century Italy, through to gems from living composers.”
The Rev Chris Williams, of Liss, said: “We had the idea that this evensong would be something for everybody – not just mothers, and an occasion just to sit, listen and contemplate...whatever your religious experience is, or even if you have none at the moment.
“There will be no formality, no need to stand up or sit down at the right moment, no need to say or do anything – except soak up the atmosphere, the words, the music and the setting. Everyone is more than welcome to come along and enjoy it in their own way.”
The service is at 6.30pm on Sunday, March 11, in St Mary’s Church, Station Road, Liss.
