ST MARY’S church in the parish of Trotton with Chithurst is to benefit from a £67,900 award from the government funded Listed Places of Worship repair fund.

The money will be used to make urgent repairs to the roof of the church, which was built about 1080.

But although a medieval church that has had few alterations and suffers a lack of modern amenities, St Mary’s fills a vital role as a much loved place of worship, and would be sadly missed if it became unsafe and had to close, says church warden Nicholas Hall.

So despite gaining the repair money, fundraising continues and donations are always welcome, he added.
