LANGRISH church is celebrating its 150th birthday with events open to village residents as well as the congregation.
The church was built by the Waddington family of Langrish House, forefathers of the current family of Nigel and Robina Talbot-Ponsonby, and consecrated in 1871.
To mark the birthday, a celebration on the weekend of September 11 and 12 is planned for Langrish and Ramsdean residents.
There will be a concert featuring Vox Cantab, led by director Louisa Denby of Stroud, at 6pm on September 11 in the church.
The next day there will be a commemorative service at 10.30am taken by Rev Prebendary Andrew Talbot-Ponsonby, a relative of the church’s founding family.
From 12.30pm villagers will enjoy a first face-to-face event since the pandemic at a village lunch on the newly-renovated church field that has been cleared by residents who removed brambles, ivy and tree stumps. The reseeded area now gives beautiful views of the fields and the hangars around the historic church.
Vox Cantab concert tickets are £10 from One Tree Books in Petersfield and for the lunch contact Rev Philippa Good on 07538 595537.
