COFFEE mornings in Petersfield and nearby villages raised thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support this year.

Petersfield Town Council held a Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser for the first time in the town hall.

Petersfield Mayor Cllr Jamie Matthews said: “It is wonderful to raise £172, and I hope we will do it again.”

Jenny Rawlins, of the Blue Tree clothes shop in Pages Court, also sold coffee and cakes for Macmillan.

At Petersfield railway station, there was a coffee morning stand in the entrance hall.

South Western Railway employee Erin McCarthy said: “My mum had cancer, and the Macmillan nurses were brilliant.”

Mackarness and Lunt solicitors in Petersfield High Street also hosted a successful coffee morning, said organiser Samantha Small.

And customers in The Square Brewery enjoyed coffee and cake for a change, said Sophie Pryer.

At Vintage and Vogue boutique in Chapel Street, proprietor Moira White said: “It’s a great way for people to come together.”

Ronnie Parr, of Sew Busy, also works from the boutique. She added: “Macmillan has been amazing for anyone who’s been through that.”

At Chapman House in Chapel Street, staff and friends hosted a coffee morning. A spokesman said: “Everybody knows someone who’s been affected by cancer.

“As well as the coffee morning, ten per cent of all our sales are going to the charity.”

Residents of St Peter’s Court in Hylton Road also enjoyed coffee and cakes.

Debbie Harris said: “It was fantastic, we had a tombola and a bric-a-brac stall, and I would like to say a big thank you to the local shops who donated gifts.
