Stansted Players are bringing AEW Mason’s Green Stockings to the Steep school’s Olivier Theatre for four performances this week.
Written in 1911, the play opens with William Faraday, a widower and owner of the house who has four daughters. They are Evelyn Lady Rockingham, a widow, Madge, whose husband is posted abroad, Phyllis, who hopes tonight to become engaged, and Good Old Celia, who everyone expects will never marry.
Babby Tarver, Phyllis’s hopeful intended, hopes also to win an election and he is more focused on that than on winning Phyllis’s hand. He is supported by Admiral Grice, who feels he has an uphill struggle, but everyone present seems willing to canvass for Bobby. Also in the room is Aunt Ada, who is visiting from America.
As with previous Stansted Players’ productions, four-part singing and instrumental music will feature.
Tickets at £5 are available by e-mail from Alastair Langlands at: [email protected] or on the door.
